Make the best of O Week

Orientation Week (O Week) is the first week of the academic semester that includes a variety of events and sessions to introduce students to university life. This very generic definition does little to convey how exciting O Week can be; but it’s up to you to make the most of it. Below are some things that will give you an idea of what O Week involves. 

We recommend you attend these helpful sessions:

TOWNSVILLE
• Unistart- a program to help you with your transition into University
• Faculty welcome sessions- your faculty and course introduction- a MUST to attend.
• Library Tour- An informative 20 minute library tour.
• Student ID cards- All JCU students need an identification card.
• Time management and organisation- will help you manage your time as a university student.

CAIRNS
• Unistart- a program to help you with your transition into University
• Faculty welcome (all students)- your faculty and course introduction
• Timetables and time management- this session will teach you how to plan and organize
• Meet and mingle- self-explanatory isn’t it?
• Student ID cards- All JCU students need an identification card.

These social events are a fun way to kick start your life at JCU:

TOWNSVILLE
• Free BBQ and giant games- social and recreational activities designed to kick off University with a bit of fun.
• The O’Mazing Race- A free competition that allows you to see the sights of Townsville.
• Toga Party- an 18+ popular event that is held at Uni Club; have a toga costume prepared.
• Market Day- Free BBQ, stalls, freebies, games and clubs and societies sign up.
• Reef HQ Trip- Visit the largest coral reef aquarium in the world (bookings essential).

CAIRNS
• Beach Adventure- Free bus trip to the beach, play beach volleyball or swim!
• Eat, Play and Pass- Free lunch, live entertainment and giveaways.
• Cruising Cairns- free bus trip for a tour of the city
• Market Day- Visit stalls and see what’s on offer
• Toga Party- an 18+ popular event that is held at Uni Club; have a toga costume prepared.
