“G’day” / “Guten Tag” everybody!
In the next couple of months, I will be blogging about my studies and life in Townsville during my time at the JCU.
Some facts about me:
My name is Celine. I am a 22 year old international student from Kassel, Germany. I am studying to become a teacher for the subjects English and History. I have already been to Australia from 2010 to 2011, working as an Au Pair in Toowoomba (150 km’s inland from Brisbane). I loved the country and people so much that I wanted to come back…
So I decided to study abroad for one semester…
After a very long trip from Frankfurt via Dubai, Singapore and Brisbane I finally arrived in Townsville on the 15th of July. I had already booked permanent accommodation so the free JCU shuttle bus took me from the airport to my accommodation for the next months.
I live in a share house with other international students from the US, Germany, Ecuador and South Africa. It is a five bedroom house with a big living room, open kitchen and a huge garden with patio and barbeque. Located in Douglas, the house is within walking distance of the Uni (15 minutes), Supermarkets (IGA within 15 minutes), the Riverview Tavern (15 minutes) and Willows Shopping Centre (25 minutes). I spent the first days getting to know the area and finding my way around. I also saw some wallabies right next to our house. AMAZING!
On Friday the 19th of July, I attended the International Welcome Session. All the international students got together in the Sir Kneipp Auditorium for heaps of information and give-aways (like a JCU water bottle, JCU bag, vouchers, etc.). The free lunch provided by the International Support Team gave me the possibility to meet lots of new people. Besides, the Billabong Sanctuary brought snakes and a crocodile to take pictures with. In the afternoon, I finalised my timetable and connected my devices to the JCU network.
The first week has already been great. I am so happy that I came back to this amazing country and I can’t wait to adding studying here to my experiences. I am really looking forward to the next couple of months.
Cheers,
Celine
Hey Celine,
I’m from Germany, Marburg and just read this post! Where or how did you find your accommodation? Do you know anyone who lived on-campus and could tell me how he or she liked it?!
Thanks in advance!
