My home university in Scotland is referred to as ‘the Bubble’ because it’s small and it’s easy to get stuck in the whole crazy ‘university’ world. I find JCU in Townsville to be similar; between the university and Stockland (the local shopping centre) you can get everything you would need. You don’t even have to go all the way to the city. So why bother you might be thinking?
Well that’s why you’re studying abroad! To EXPLORE, make the most of your time in a different country and create adventures and memories in a different world!
The last few weeks I have spent exploring North, trying to inch my way as close to the equator as possible!
A popular spot about an hour North of Townsville is Crystal Creek. A series of different zones in a natural creek await, depending on your mood. You spend some time chilling out at Big Creek or clambering up rocks until you feel like you’re on top of the world.
If you head another hour or so North you will get to the incredible Wallaman Falls. This is the tallest single drop waterfall in Australia! It is breathtaking! With spectacular views on the drive up and then at the waterfall itself, it is definitely worth a visit!
And of course I couldn’t talk about heading north without mentioning THE BEST FIELD TRIP I have ever been on. Over Easter weekend, my Biology class took a trip up to Orpheus Island Research Station where we spent our days snorkeling and surveying corals and our night watching the blood moon eclipse…
It was a spectacular weekend and the perfect location for a bit of Sunday Science 🙂
Be your own James Cook; be an ADVENTURER!
